The Wellness Center was founded in January 2021 by Varuni Fernando. She started her counseling work as a volunteer at Sri Lanka Sumithrayo during 2003-2004 and has been serving the community independently for the past 20 years. She is a certified psychotherapist and hold diplomas in Psychology and Child Psychology (Institute of Mental Health, Colombo). Additionally, she holds a Diploma in Counseling and Psychotherapy (Institute of Psychological Studies, Sri Lanka). As a passionate student of Psychology, she is also currently enrolled in further psychology education at the University of London.

During her 30-year career in the mercantile sector, Varuni had the opportunity to work mainly in the garment industry. For almost a decade, she worked as Principal Officer in Sri Lanka for a NY-based company which engaged in manufacturing and marketing in the Asian region.

Varuni teaches counseling through a structured one-year program, and she also offers a course in psychodynamic psychotherapy for those who have an inclination towards the modality.
