The Wellness Center was established in January 2021 by Varuni Fernando, a dedicated psychotherapist with over two decades of experience in counseling. Varuni’s journey began as a volunteer with Sri Lanka Sumithrayo from 2003 to 2004, igniting her passion for supporting individuals and communities—a commitment she has upheld independently for the past 20 years. She is a certified psychotherapist with diplomas in Psychology and Child Psychology from the Institute of Mental Health, Colombo, as well as a Diploma in Counseling and Psychotherapy from the Institute of Psychological Studies, Sri Lanka. A lifelong learner, Varuni is currently pursuing advanced studies in psychology at the University of London.
In addition to her counseling expertise, Varuni brings 30 years of professional experience from the mercantile sector, primarily in the garment industry. For nearly a decade, she served as Principal Officer in Sri Lanka for a New York-based company, overseeing the marketing operations across the Asian region. This diverse background has enriched her ability to connect with and empower others.
At The Wellness Center, Varuni extends her passion for mental health education by offering a structured one-year counseling program. She also provides specialized training in psychodynamic psychotherapy for those drawn to this modality.
The Wellness Center is registered as a Counseling Center in Sri Lanka (Registration: W/H 13401).
